Dental Crowns

A crown is a tooth-colored cap that fits over the entire structure of a damaged tooth. Crowns can provide support to teeth that have become weak due to decay, damage, or root canal therapy. They can also be used to conceal imperfections, including cracks and discolorations that can detract from a beautiful smile. Often crafted from ceramic or porcelain materials, crowns can improve both the look and structure of a tooth.

Placing Dental Crowns

To place a dental crown, you will need to make two visits to our office. During the first appointment, we will take an impression of your damaged tooth, which will be used to design the crown. We will then prepare the tooth by removing some of the damaged tooth structure in order to make room for the crown. Next, we will design the crown and send the design to the laboratory near our office in Plantation. When it is ready, you will return to our office to have your crown placed. We will ensure that it fits comfortably and meets your aesthetic goals.

Dental Bridges

Although dental implants are the best tooth replacement option for many of our patients, they are not appropriate for everyone. For this reason, we also offer dental bridges to replace missing teeth. A dental bridge includes one or more replacement teeth attached to dental crowns, which hold the replacement teeth in place. When you visit our practice, our dentists can determine whether a dental implant or bridge is the right tooth replacement option for you.

Types of Dental Bridges

We use several types of dental bridges at our practice, located in Plantation. A traditional dental bridge is an artificial tooth (crown) attached to two more crowns, which are slipped over the teeth on either side of the gap. The artificial tooth fits neatly inside the gap. If there are no natural teeth on one side of the gap, we will place a cantilever bridge, or two crowns placed side-by-side and attached to an artificial tooth. A Maryland bonded bridge is a partial denture supported by a metal frame. Our dentists will carefully examine your teeth and make a recommendation based on your unique needs. All of our bridges are crafted from the finest materials to fit comfortably and securely in your mouth. When well cared for, bridges can last for years.

Porcelain Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays are custom-made porcelain restorations that are used to restore teeth that have been damaged by decay. We use them instead of tooth-colored fillings when a tooth needs extra support, but does not need a full dental crown. Inlays are placed within the cusps (points) of a tooth and onlays are placed on one or more of the cusps. Because they are made from porcelain, inlays and onlays are durable and blend in with surrounding teeth.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are an extremely effective and long-lasting solution for replacing missing teeth. During the dental implant procedure, a titanium post is surgically placed in the jawbone, extending through the top of the gums. Our Plantation dentists, who treat patients from Boca Raton, screw a dental crown or bridge to the top of the post so it blends in naturally with the adjacent teeth. Once they are placed and fully healed, implants look and feel just like natural teeth. Visit our Dental Implants page to learn more about this treatment option.
